The 5Terre form one of the most unspoilt areas of the Mediterranean and one of the most extended areas in Liguria. They are a kingdom of nature and wild scents maintained as in the past.
To visit here, means to visit five villages suspended between sea and earth, clinging on to cliffs and surrounded by green hills; it means to know the history of whom, for centuries, has fought against difficult land but it also means to taste the results of this millenarian struggle and in particular wine and produce.
To visit these villages means to learn about the culture of the dry-stone walls and of the vineyard, of the fishermen and of their fishing nets, of the steep valleys and of their paths.
Who visits these lands can choose between a dive in the sea or a hike on the hills, between a walk in the narrow alleys called "carruggi" or a boat trip, a pilgrimage to a sanctuary or a seafood lunch.
It is a landscape unique in the world in which man and nature live together in harmony since the beginning of time
The touristic success of the CinqueTerre is mainly due to the paths that wind along the coast or that reach the sanctuaries that rise in each village. The view is absolutely incomparable. The paths can be trod by everyone, young or old. Once the destination is reached, it is possible to return to the starting point of the excursion thanks to public means of transport such as trains, ferries or buses. The equipment required to go on these walks is minimum: shoes with non-slippery soles, long trousers to protect against brambles, a good supply of water and, if required by the season, a hat to protect against the sun or clothing to protect against the cold and wind. During summer, at the end of the walk, a relaxing and refreshing dive in the clear and clean sea is advisable.
The territory between Mesco Point and Cape Montenero is a very particular and fascinating landscape, both for its natural ambient, which has been maintained more or less intact in time, and for the deep-rooted historical and human values that have influenced and modelled it, making it a unique scene in the world. From December 1999, the mounts overlooking the sea, the terraces made with the hard work of man, the coast, the sea and the deep seabed form the National Park of the CinqueTerre and the Protected Marine Area. The foundation of the Protected Marine Area dates back to 1997 and includes the part of sea between Mesco Point and Cape Montenero.
